Expansion of Mojo Dry Port and Terminal
Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Services Enterprise (ESLSE) announced that, it is working to make Mojo Dry Port and Terminal a Logistics hub through expansion. The expansion started with 150 million USD which is earned from the World Bank.
“When it first came into operation in 2001, it handled 12,000 containers a year and in the current budget year, it has been able to handle 133,000 containers in ten months” said Dereje Mideksa, Director General of Modjo Dry Port and Terminal.
“The dry port has started to expand its logistics capacity to become a hub. The expansion will help the dry port to expand the category of import export cargo and to staff export cargoes locally.” added Ato Dereje.
Currently, the Mojo Dry Port and Terminal handles 80 percent of the country’s imports.

EDR transported over 1 million tons of import and export goods
Ethio Djibouti Standard Gauge Railway S.C. transported 1.45 million tons of import and exports goods, said Eng. Tilahun Sarka, Director General of EDR. And currently, the company tries to deliver fertilizer on time to farmers.

Railway Academy to be Opened
Ethiopia is going to build a railway academy that will provide sufficient qualified workforce for the existing and planned railway projects to be built during the coming years, according to the Ethiopian Railways Corporation (ERC).
Recently, a group of journalists visited section of the 2.8 billion Birr Ethio-Djibouti railway in Awash-Kombolcha-Hara Gebeya line which is currently 15 percent executed.
Approached by The EPA during the visit, ERC Railway Network Sector Deputy-General Manager Behailu Sintayehu said that the training institute that planned to erect in Bishoftu town of Oromia State would ease the sector’s shortage of experts.
The academy would also enable to provide qualified personnel for big railway projects Ethiopia would undertake in the years to come, Behailu added.

PM Abiy Lays Cornerstone for Construction of Adama-Awash Expressway
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Sunday laid the foundation stone for the construction of the first phase of Adama-Awash expressway that covers 60-kilometers. The 130 kilometers Adama-Awash expressway as part of the Ethiopia-Djibouti Transport Corridor Project forms regional network serving Djibouti, Somaliland and Eritrea, it was learned.
African Development Bank (AfDB) provided 6.6 billion Birr to start the construction of the first phase of the expressway whereas the bid for second phase, which covers 70 km, is underway.
Construction of the road is expected to be completed in four years.

Hapag-Lloyd further expands its container fleet: 60,000 TEU of standard containers ordered
Hapag-Lloyd has once again invested in its container fleet and ordered an additional 60,000 TEU of standard containers from China. The first boxes will supplement those currently being produced and are scheduled to be delivered to Hapag-Lloyd as early as July and integrated into the existing fleet. The majority will be subsequently delivered in the third quarter.
In April of this year, Hapag-Lloyd had already announced orders for a total of around 150,000 TEU of standard and reefer containers to be delivered over the course of 2021. The company had also invested in its container fleet at the beginning of the pandemic.
