The commission and our association formed a joint forum.

Ethiopian Freight Forwarders and Shipping Agents Association (EFFSAA) and Ethiopian Customs Commission (ECC) have established a joint forum.

The forum conducted its first meeting on Thursday April 22, 2021 at the Operation Sector conference hall of the Commission based on Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Commission and our association. The meeting was attended by members of the Board of Directors on behalf of EFFSAA and senior management members on behalf of the ECC. During the session, participants discussed in detail the way in which the established forum could be maintained and decided on a permanent basis meeting program for the forum. In addition, various agendas were presented by both institutions, and the executive members of the association and the commission actively participated.

Ethiopian becomes the first African airline to trial IATA Travel Pass

Ethiopian Airlines Group, Africaโ€™s leading airline, has become the first African airline to conduct trial of IATA Travel Pass, a digital travel mobile app to enhance efficiency in testing or vaccine verifications.

As travel restarts, travelers need accurate COVID-19-related information like testing and vaccine requirements which vary among countries. The IATA Travel Pass initiative helps verify the authenticity of test information presented by travelers which is essential for ensuring the safety of passengers while complying with entry requirements of countries.

The trial would be conducted on flights out of Addis Ababa to Washington DC and Toronto as well as on flights out of London and Toronto to Addis Ababa, effective 25 April 2021.

Ethiopian has gone digital in all of its operations to avoid physical contact and combat the spread of the pandemic and now, embarks on this initiative which will allow passengers to relish unparalleled flight experience.

The Travel Pass will help create a digital passport, receive test and vaccination certificates and verify that they are sufficient for their route, and share testing or vaccination certificates with airlines and authorities to facilitate travel. The digital travel app will also avoid fraudulent documentation and make air travel more convenient.

ESLSE to unlock shortages by purchasing new containers

The Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Services Enterprise (ESLSE), which has been facing hindrance of cargo boxes, is on the process of doubling its owned containers number to tackle the shortage. Meanwhile, public enterprises and government offices are alleged for the hoarding of its property.

The logistic giant and sole multimodal operators, ESLSE disclosed that it is on the process of buying new containers to expand its containerized cargo operation.

Roba Megersa, CEO of ESLSE, told that there is a shortage of containers for different reasons including the current global challenge that is related with COVID 19 which has slow down the global economy.

Agility opens new logistics park in Maputo, Mozambique

Agility, a leading global logistics and warehouse provider, has opened a new Agility Logistics Park in Maputo, adding to its growing network of international-standard warehouse parks serving key African markets.

The 290,000 sq.m Agility park is strategically located on the new Maputo ring road in the Marracuene-Chiongo district, providing easy access to the burgeoning Maputo market and road connections to the major highways leading to the large markets in the north of Mozambique and to South Africa.

The 32,000 sq m of Agility warehousing constructed for the first phase of the development provide ready-built, secure, international-standard facilities that are available to lease by both local companies and multinationals. Tenants lease the warehouses for storage, distribution, packaging, processing, assembly and light manufacturing.

Agility warehouses meet international environmental standards and feature eco-friendly construction materials. Agility used energy-efficient roof and side-insulated panels; wind-driven roof fans; skylights for natural lighting; LED and energy-saving bulbs; and solar-powered streetlights. The site will recycle paper, plastic, metal, and carton waste. It provides eco-friendly waste management services and carbon footprint reporting.
